I snapped this the last time I ate at Applebee’s. Though it was good enough for me to tell who they were trying to paint…well, it ain’t great. I’m not saying I could do any better however. They should have just used a photo of the duo.

Gilligan’s Island – Opening Theme
I read about the filming of the pilot for Gilligan’s Island a few years ago. Pretty much no one in the cast initially took it seriously. Since the pilot filmed in Hawaii though, it seemed like a great excuse to take a working vacation in a tropical locale. I can think of worse places to work. I was in Hawaii in 1998 on the island of Oahu, and it was pretty close to perfect. I can imagine it was even better in the 1960′s.

Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas (Outtakes)
Having grown up on HBO, I watched Emmet Otter pretty much every Christmas season in the 1980′s. I just rewatched it with my wife…and the mom’s music didn’t age well at all. Everybody else (even the bad guys) are fun to watch, but his mom, well, it’s like listening to bad female singers in church, who feel the need to add a ton of flourish to music that just doesn’t require any.
That being said, the outtakes go to show how much work they put into the muppetry. Tedium doesn’t seem to describe it.
