Windows Joy, 1995

To be fair, this was a huge thing at the time. I worked technical support for Gateway 2000 shortly after Windows 95 came out, and it was such an advancement over Windows 3.11. It was clean, polished, and much more well organized. I only wish that I knew about two little programs they snuck into Win95: Progman and Winfile. See, if you clicked Start, then Run, and typed PROGMAN, you got the old Program Manager from Win 3.11, which would have been awesome for all these older Windows users who had just upgraded…and now didn’t have a clue how to navigate their programs. WINFILE could be accessed the same way, and it brought up File Manager (or the older version of Windows Explorer). I still miss a couple features from File Mgr, namely having the drives listed on the top of the screen at all times.

  1. I keep forgetting that you, your brother in law, and your sister, among others, were cattle too once.

  2. I used progman all the time on the phones while at gw2k. At first it helped us, [we had 95 on our systems], see what the victims, errrr customers, were seeing on their screens. And it helped to ease some people that upgraded from the 3.11 gui to 95 when they went to look in familiar places to find stuff.
